Frequently Asked Questions About Telehealth Therapy

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my insurance covers online therapy?

We will verify your insurance benefits before your first appointment. You can also call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask about coverage for telehealth mental health services with a licensed psychologist.

Is online therapy as effective as in-person therapy?

Research consistently shows that telehealth therapy can be just as effective as in-person treatment for many mental health concerns. The key factors in therapy success are the therapist’s expertise and the client’s engagement, both of which are maintained in the online format.

How do online couples therapy sessions work?

Both partners can join from the same location using one device, or from separate locations using different devices. Dr. Riggins will guide the session just as he would in person, facilitating communication and providing tools to strengthen your relationship.

What technology do I need for online therapy?

You’ll need a device with a camera and microphone (smartphone, tablet, or computer), a stable internet connection, and a private space where you feel comfortable speaking freely. We’ll provide simple instructions for joining your secure video session.

How long are therapy sessions, and how often will we meet?

Individual and couples therapy sessions are typically 50 minutes long. The frequency depends on your specific needs and goals, but most clients begin with weekly sessions and may adjust to biweekly or monthly as progress is made.

Will my therapy sessions be private and secure?

Absolutely. Dr. Riggins uses only HIPAA-compliant telehealth platforms with end-to-end encryption to ensure your confidentiality. Your privacy is protected just as it would be in traditional in-office therapy.

What types of payment are accepted for costs not covered by insurance?

For any copays, deductibles, or services not covered by insurance, we accept credit cards, HSA/FSA cards, and electronic payments. We’ll clearly explain any out-of-pocket costs before your first session.

How soon can I get an appointment?

Dr. Riggins typically has new appointment slots available within 1-2 weeks. Please call our office for the most current availability.
