Immigration Evaluation

Immigration Evaluation

Going through the immigration process can be stressful, emotional, and uncertain. A psychological evaluation from a licensed clinical psychologist can provide critical documentation to support your case. Dr. Reginald K. Riggins offers professional immigration evaluations via telehealth, making it easier to get the support you need no matter where you are.

What Is an Immigration Evaluation?

An immigration psychological evaluation is a clinical assessment conducted by a licensed psychologist to document the psychological impact of your experiences. These evaluations are often requested by immigration attorneys to support cases involving extreme hardship, asylum, U visas, VAWA (Violence Against Women Act) petitions, and other immigration proceedings.

During the evaluation, Dr. Riggins conducts a thorough clinical interview and administers standardized psychological assessments to provide an objective picture of your emotional and mental health functioning. The final product is a detailed written report that can be submitted as evidence in your case.

Extreme Hardship Evaluations

When a family member faces deportation or denial of a visa, the emotional toll can be significant. An extreme hardship evaluation documents the psychological impact that separation or relocation would have on a qualifying relative, such as a U.S. citizen spouse, parent, or child.

Dr. Riggins assesses factors like emotional distress, disruption to family stability, loss of support systems, and any existing mental health conditions that could worsen as a result of the hardship. The goal is to give the court a clear, clinical picture of what’s at stake for the family beyond just the paperwork.

These evaluations are commonly used in I-601 and I-601A waiver cases.

Survivors of Violence Evaluations

For individuals who have experienced domestic abuse or been victims of a qualifying crime, a psychological evaluation can be a powerful piece of evidence in their immigration case. Dr. Riggins provides evaluations for both VAWA (Violence Against Women Act) petitions and U visa applications.

In these cases, the evaluation focuses on documenting the emotional and psychological effects of the abuse or crime, including symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, depression, and trauma-related difficulties. Dr. Riggins’ extensive background in trauma assessment, including more than a decade of experience working with survivors of interpersonal violence and military sexual trauma, allows him to provide thorough and clinically sound documentation.

Whether you experienced abuse from a U.S. citizen or permanent resident spouse, or you were the victim of a serious crime that occurred in the United States, these evaluations help establish the psychological harm you’ve endured.

Political Asylum Evaluations

Individuals seeking asylum in the United States often carry the weight of persecution, threats, and violence from their country of origin. A political asylum evaluation documents the psychological effects of those experiences and helps establish the credibility of your claim.

Dr. Riggins conducts a comprehensive clinical interview to understand your history, assess current symptoms, and identify any trauma-related conditions such as PTSD, anxiety, or depression. Standardized assessment measures are used to provide objective data that supports the clinical findings. The final report connects your psychological presentation to the experiences described in your asylum case.

These evaluations can be especially important when physical evidence of persecution is limited, as the psychological record offers another form of documentation for the court.
